Our April Sketch Challenge Winner & Featured Layouts

It's always a good day at Blue Fern Studios when we get the opportunity to give away a prize, and to feature some of your layouts.  We would like to start by announcing the winner of our April Sketch Challenge.
From a random draw, entry #7 is our winner this month.

Entry #7 was submitted by Dria (5finns) from an online gallery.
Congratulations Dria!  As the winner, you will receive a package of Blue Fern Studios chipboard.
Please send an e-mail, within the next 7 days, to {valerie(at)bluefernstudios(dot)com} to claim your prize.

Here is the layout Dria created for the sketch challenge.  Isn't this an amazing photo?  We love how she combine some peach accents along with several shades of blue to compliment the photo so well.
This layout was created using paper from the Courtship Lane collection.

A huge thank you to all who participated in the April Sketch Challenge.  We have selected three very different styles of layouts to feature this month.  Our congratulations to these amazing women.

First we have this artistic layout created by AnastasiaElena, who flipped the sketch.  The layers of lace, fabric, ribbon, and buttons add some wonderful texture.  She has used paper from our very first collection - Blue Fern Garden.  It's so nice to see this paper from the past!

Next we chose this gorgeous layout by Alesanalovesky, who used paper from the Frolic Collection.  The soft colors and embellishments let the photo be the star of this layout.  Did you notice the Blue Fern "Birds on a Wire" chipboard piece?

Our third feature is this month is from Daria Burmistrova and just couldn't be sweeter.  The layering and fussy cutting are stunning and give this layout such an elegant look.  Daria has used paper from our Blush Collection.

This wraps up our April Sketch Challenge.  Thanks so much for stopping by.
Our May sketch has been posted.  You will find a link in the top right side-bar.
We hope you will join us this month!

Sketch Challenge Winner & Featured Layouts

Let's start off this post by announcing the winner of our June Sketch Challenge.  The winner is entry #16, which belongs to Jessika of Sweden, who has won an assortment of Blue Fern Studios chipboard!  Jessika, please send me an e-mail, within the next 7 days, to {valerie(at)bluefernstudios(dot)com} to claim your prize.

Take a look at this happy layout Jessika created using pieces of the Waterworks Frame chipboard piece.

The sketch challenge entries this month were outstanding!  There were so many awesome projects to choose from to feature this month, but we have narrowed it down to the following.  We hope you enjoy them!

The first featured project was created by Elena Lishchenko of Russia.  Elena entered a hand-made album cover in our sketch challenge, and it sure is beautiful!  The chipboard piece used on the cover is from the Deja Vu Dangles Chippies set, and the paper is from our Deja Vu collection.

In her blog post, Elena shows the inside of her album, which was also created using the Deja Vu collection.  She has several videos on her blog where she shows exactly how she stacked layer after layer of gorgeous paper from the Deja Vu collection to create each page inside the album.  Here's a peek inside:

Our second feature this month is from Pascale who lives in France.  We love that the pieces from the Turkish Bits, which she has painted black, provide the perfect background and texture for this elegant photo.

And our third feature this month is by Elena Volchkova of Ukraine. We fell in love with the softness Elena created using paper from the very first Blue Fern collection, Blue Fern Garden.  Elena used the Dresden Corsage, which she cut into several pieces, and sprinkled some of the Broken Rings around her layout.

We couldn't stop at just 3 features this month, so we will continue!  This one uses
paper from the Deja Vu collection, and was created by Karine Gagnon of Canada.  Karine has added the Dresden Corsage chipboard piece to her layout, and used a piece from the Love, Happy, Smile set for the title.

The final feature from our June Sketch Challenge is from Yasmins of Norway.  Yasmins has a YouTube video on her blog where you can watch her process as she created this layout.  She used the Jeweled Page Dangles and Majestic Frame chipboard pieces.  We love how she altered the frame by adding some tiny beads.

That's it for this month.  Congratulations to our winner, and the awesome women who created the five layouts/album we are featuring this month.  It was such a difficult choice, as always.  Thanks to ALL of you who took the time to enter our sketch challenge in June.

Our July sketch has been posted, and a link to it can be found in our right sidebar.  We hope you will join us once again in July.

Three projects, three collections by Marie-Josée

Hello all,

I hope you are all doing fine. School is almost out (well, here in Canada), and summer is just around the corner. Here are a few projects for you!

Box + easel card

I created this gift box with an easel card on top with the Déjà Vu paper collection. I used two different papers: Friperies for the box, and Un voyage à Paris for the card.

I altered one of the butterflies from the Brigitte Butterfly Set with white gesso and purple mist.

I also used a piece of the Country Picket Fence, altered with white gesso:

"Delight" layout

For this layout, I used a paper from the Blue Fern Garden paper collection, the first released by Blue Fern.

I glued the Checker Bits chipboard pieces to my background and added white gesso on top with a sponge.

I also altered a piece of the Postage Frames chipboard set with white gesso. The word Delight from the Delight set was altered with Gelatos. I just used the Gelatos on the bare chipboard and with my finger and a bit of water, I applied the color all over.

"Memories Captured" layout

This layout was created with the Ombré Dreams paper collection. The paper I used is Julianna's Dream.

I used the Crosshatch Frame under my photo. I didn't alter it.

I also used the Memories Captured chipboard from the Captured Words set. This piece was also used as is, without any medium.

January projects by Karita Vainio

Hello!
It´s Karita Vainio here with you today,
and this is my very first post as a Blue Fern Studios designer.
I´m very excited about this new journey with a new amazing team and especially with the gorgeous products.

 Here´s something about me:
I´m a bit over fourty years old. Mother to a three amazing children, two grown up boys and one teenage girl
Also I´m a wife to a kind and supportive man. We´ve been together 25 years now.
We live in southern Finland, close to our capital city, Helsinki.
We live in a small house, which we build 10 years ago.
I love to decorate our little home and in the summer I spend my time in our small garden, which is my favourite place to be and enjoying the summer.

I love creating things. I love to make layouts and cards, and sometimes I also make art journals and canvases.
I think my style is romantic mixed together with shabby and mixed media styles.
I love to use different textures in my projects and  my motto is more is better.
I´ve been crafting and scrapbooking like 7 years now and I feel like my journey has just began :)

If you like my work, you can find my blog here:

My 1st project is made by following the January sketch.

For this layout I´ve used the Correspondence and Botanical Garden papers from the new Sanctuary collection.
And the beautiful chipboards I´ve used are Notebook Edges, Arrow Words and Smile.

I´ve added white gesso on the papers and chipboards and after they dried I started adding some paints and mists.

Paper: Sanctuary collection: Correspondence, Botanical Garden
Chipboard: Notebook Edges, Arrow Words, Smile

And here´s my 2nd layout..

I`ve used the Botanical Garden and Garden Plaza papers from the Sanctuary collection.
And the great chipboards are Shabby Flakes and Roman Clock Set - small.
I´ve cutted the paper on the top a bit smaller than the bottom one and punched the edges from here and there to give a grunge effect.

Paper:  Sanctuary collection: Botanical Garden, Garden Plaza
Chipboard: Shabby Flakes, Roman Clock Set - Small

My 3rd project for this month is a canvas.

Paper I used for this canvas is Boudoir from the Blue Fern Garden collection.
Text is cutted from the Calling card from the Sanctuary collection.
And I just loved these gorgeous chipboards called Jasmine Collage and Checker Bits.

For this canvas I used lots of gesso and modelling paste.
And mists and paints.

'Sanctuary' Inspiration by Lisa Griffith

Hello Blue Fern Studios friends....

I am a little later than usual this month due to some technical difficulties on my part...
But I actually felt very lucky to have a few more days as it gave me a bit more time to play
with the new collection 'Sanctuary', that I am so IN LOVE with....

'perfect'

I started with the beautiful paper 'Conservatory' and then I layered a lot of pieces of Blue Fern Studios papers including the 'Calling Cards' from the Sanctuary collection and some pieces from the Blue Fern Garden collection in the background and created lots of texture with gesso, paints, stamping and gold micro beads.

For my title I embossed a piece from the 'Chunky Word Set' set in copper to match my copper colored paints.

I also used pieces of the 'Shabby Brick Bits' which I painted in white and then covered in different paints in gold and copper colors. You can also see a piece of 'Ginger's Poppies' tucked under my photo.

'girl in bonnet'

For my second project I started with the paper 'Bountiful' also from the Sanctuary collection. I only recently tried to do a layout with a dark background and I love how it turned out, using a dark background paper looks so dramatic and makes your photos and embellishments really stand out.

I layered some gesso using several masks, some blue and pink paint and pieces of washi tape to create my background and then added some bits of lace, flowers, and tucked in a piece of 'Blue Fern Frame' that I painted white and blue. You can also see small pieces of the paper 'Mercantile' from the Montage paper collection.

'magical'

For my final layout I started with the paper 'Meadows of Time' from the new Sanctuary collection.
I just love the blue and brown vintage patterns here, so gorgeous and totally inspiring to me. I knew I wanted to make a wintery looking page so I started by adding gesso with a sea sponge for a very uneven look and then I added some mists in blue and brown.

I tucked in a few pieces of Blue Fern Garden paper, and then added some pieces of the 'Shabby Flakes' and a piece of 'Winter Titles' which I painted white and then sprinkled with white glitter.

I hope I have inspired you a little today :)
See you next time...
Lisa
