A layout and Mini-Album with Seaside Cottage by Keren Tamir

Hi Everyone,
Its Keren here on the Blue Fern Studios blog for my September post.
This month I've created a layout and a mini album using the Seaside Cottage collection.

Since I love the beach so much, Seaside cottage is one of my favourite collections and I loved using it again.

Here is my layout:

"Frolic in the Sun"

For the background paper I used the Seaside Cottage Glory paper.
I used a picture of some seagulls flying in the air. It looks like they are Frolicking in the sun and dancing in the sunset. Thats why I used that chipboard title. The title was sprayed in gold ink.

The photo was framed with the Marseille frame which was painted in white gesso, then stamped with the Brocade texture. I used the same technique for the flutter medley and added it to the side of the frame. Then I embellished with matching Blue Fern Studios' flowers and added bits of the Persian ornament chipboard in between the flowers.

"Vacation"

For my second project this month I created this Sand Castle mini-album.
The mini album already comes like this and its made out of MDF material. However you could easily make and cut these shapes out of cardboard or other material to create your own mini album.

For the background and embellishments I used the following Seaside Cottage papers: Gala, Splendor, Glory and Calling Cards.

For the cover I used some Blue Fern Studios flowers and some seashells. I also used a few of the following chipboard pieces: Seaside Seashells, Seaside Treasures and By the sea. For the title, I used the Summer Vacation chipboard title and cut out the Summer word out of it. All the chipboard pieces in the album were either embossed with Oatmeal or Breeze embossing powders and then lightly edged with brown distress ink.

For the next pages I used the Destination Label and the Sweetheart frame chipboard pieces which were both embossed with the Oatmeal Embossing powder.

For the following two pages I used the Seaside Lanterns, Memory Frame and Circle Links. All of these chipboard pieces were embossed with the Breeze embossing powder.

For this next page I used the Lane street sign to frame my photo and the and one of the Jubilation corners for the following page. I also use a chipboard shell above the photo which can be seen from the front cover. All of these were embossed with the Breeze embossing powder.
For the last page, which is the back of the album I used the Chipper chipboard frame to frame the photo. The frame was embossed in Breeze embossing powder.
As a final touch I added some snow texture around all the page edges.

August Inspirations with Jelissa

Hello friends, how have you been?

July has been very exciting and now that August is here, I'm looking to better times ahead! Today I'm so glad to be sharing with you two creations using the fabulous new collection Seaside Cottages. This set of papers speak right to my heart and to say it was love at first sight is a great understatement. Michele has outdone herself yet again with this gorgeous beach-themed collection filled with soft colours and stunning images.

My first layout is of my eldest having some fun with his feet in the sand. Woodgrain is really my thing and I had to use it for the background. Seeing that the paper is so full of details, I toned down my background work and used to it accent the colors on the page.

Details in the close-ups:

An anchor from part of the Seaside Flourish chippie which I had embossed with Copper EP from Imagine Ink and painted some turquoise acrylic paint over for a tarnished look. The petals were sprinkled with Dusty Pink glitter.

Layer, layer, layer! That's what you do when you have so many pretty papers at hand! Here, I built up lots of dimension with scraps from Calling Cards, Voyage and Splendour.

Using a Calling Card sentiment as my title. The little stars on the flourish chipboard were also given a nice coat of Sunshine glitter.

Blue Fern Studios products used:

papers: Seaside Cottages - Calling Cards, Voyage, Splendour, Gala
chipboard: Seaside Flourish
EPs: Copper
Glitter, Dusty Pink, Sunshine

My second share is a mixed media canvas and I had used so many fun stuff on it! The starfish and shells that you see are actually from a potpourri set and they smell amazing!

This is the Seashell Frame which I had a lot of fun altering with EP and duo-toned acrylic paint.

A little sailboat from Nautical Set. Check out the background - it's one of the patterned papers from Seaside collection and I didn't have to do much to make it look so grungy and vintage all at the same time!

Who doesn't love a dolphin? I have one here with some seaweed chippies. Check out the Seaside Lilies that come as part of the coordinating flowers - they are so perfectly distressed that I didn't have to fiddle with them at all.

Mr Octopus saying hi.

I seem to have a thing for anchors again! This one is embossed and wrapped with a piece of twine.

A title piece from Calling Cards, matched by the Seaside Roses.

And here is the video of how I put everything together. Sit back and enjoy!

Blue Fern Studios supplies used:

paper: Seaside Cottages - Calling Card
chipboard: Nautical Set, By the Sea, Seashell Frame, Seaweed chippies
EPs: Ebony, Clover, Fern, Grassy Knoll, Verdant, Sea Breeze, Blue Sky, 14 Karat
Glitter: Mermaid

"Happy"

This is another layout I created with the Tranquility collection this month.
It has different tones which shows the versatility of this collection.

I used the bourbon stamp to create the textured background. I stamped and embossed using the Auburn embossing powder.

The Shrine chipboard frame was first embossed in Mushroom embossing powder and then stamped and embossed with the Auburn embossing powder.

The romantic dangle was embossed in the Chilli Powder embossing powder. I also used it to stamp and emboss the butterflies in the background.
All the flowers are also from Blue Fern Studios as they've now started selling matching flowers to their collections.

Tranquility in May

Hello Blue Fern friends!

I'm up on the blog today to share with you my creations for May. I had other projects planned for this post but this collection was too beautiful for me to put down. As usual, I like to play with light and dark background papers and this post is no different.

For my first project, I based it on the May sketch challenge although it didn't make it in time for the sketch reveal a few days ago. Below is the sketch again:

I just had to make a big deal of the blues here because of the boys' t-shirts. It also matches the color scheme of the paper perfectly. Lots of subtle details in the background as I wanted it to merge with the paper itself.

Some details in the close-ups:

Tranquillity flowers. I'm so glad BFS has released coordinating flower packs! No more hunting high and low for blooms that match.

Altering one of the roses a bit with some watercolor paint to create an ombre effect.

A chippie which I altered by first painting with green watercolor, followed by layering the embossing powders Lilac, Amethyst and with a sprinkle of glitter in Sunshine.

For my title piece "Blissful", I layered the embossing powders In The Navy, Seven Seas, Cerulean and Breeze.

Blue Fern Studios products used:

paper: Tranquility collection - Calm, Calling Cards, Jubilation, Peaceful
chipboard: "Blissful, Jubilation, Patience", "Tranquil Foliage"
embossing powder: In The Navy, Seven Seas, Cerulean, Breeze, Lilac, Amethyst
Glitter: SunshineFlowers: Tranquil Blooms, Tranquil Roses and Lilies

My second share is a video tutorial, of a layout of the boys at Rockingham Beach. Granted it was close to winter and chilly, we were hoping to make a day trip to Penguin Island just across the shore and check out the wildlife. Unfortunately the ferry trips were all canceled but we had a lot of fun picking up shells and watching the sea birds play in the distance.

I love how the whole project turned out, although there were a few bits which I thought I could have added more details - some of you may know what I'm talking about when I say I wanted to do something this minute and the next minute I've clean forgotten it! Nevertheless, I'm a sucker for woodgrain patterns and this sheet of Calm (I've used the reverse side for the first layout, that's how much I like it) really got my groove going.

Some details in the close-ups:

A cute little anchor amidst the waves. Matched with Tranquility flowers.

More altered blooms, shells and seaweed chippies.

Love how the glitter sparkles in the sunlight, much like seaspray on a summer day.

Lapping waves and foam

The title piece - Fascination. Love the duo-toned effect in the sun!

And here is the start to finish video tutorial. I have noted the feedback from the previous video and slowed things down here so that you don't miss out on the action. Sit back and have fun!

Blue Fern Studios products used:

Keren's Projects with Courtship Lane Collection

Hello Everyone!!
Its Keren here with two projects for Blue Fern Studios!
I usually create two layouts but this time I wanted to create something different with the Courtship Lane collection.

"Home Sweet Home Memories"

I really love the vintage house images on the Courtship Lane papers so I fussy cut them to fit into my three part shadow box frame.
I cut three different houses to fit each of the boxes as they measured 3,4 and 5 inches squared respectively. The houses were cut out of the West Plaza, East Plaza and Calling cards papers.

The middle box was framed with one of the graduated squares. The right box was framed with the Memory frame. Finally I placed the Iron Signage chipboard on the top corner of the left shadow box.
All three chipboard pieces were embossed in both Oatmeal and Sage embossing powders.
Then I added a "Home Sweet Home" phrase out of the Calling Cards paper to add to the sign.

I added some matching  Courtship flowers and other vines to embellish around the frames as well as the Evening Lamp Post  chipboard which was simply painted with acrylic paint.

<<<<<<>>>>>

"Sail Away"

For my second project, I used the Town Gossip paper from the Courtship Lane  for the background.

I framed the photo in one of the Beaded Strings chipboard which was embossed with Tangerine embossing powder. I also added the swirly doodle under the photo. I cut it in half so it would show under both ends of the photo. Both the light house chipboard piece from the "By the Sea" set, were embossed in Ginger embossing powder

The sail away title was sprayed in brown to match the Courtship Lane flowers.
I also used the Journey stamp to create some texture in the background with brown ink.

3 Beach Layouts with 3 different collections- by Keren Tamir

Keren here, and today I have 3 beach layouts created with three different Blue Fern Studios Collections.
I recently came back from a family beach vacation. I wanted to show how versatile all the Blue Fern studios collections are and how easily they can be used for the same theme.

"Beautiful Girl"

With the Ombré Dreams Collection

For the background paper I used Ombré Dreams Charlotte's Dream and I also used the Ombré Dreams- Dream Cards as layers.

I used the corner flourishes chipboard which I cut into pieces. I painted it in pastel blue acrylic paint and stamped and inked it.

<<<<<<<<<<<<>>>>>>>>>>>>>

"Hello Summer"

With the Blue Fern Garden Collection

I used the "Signature" paper from the Blue Fern Garden collection for the background.

For chipboard, I used the Jewelled page dangles,  Jewelled frame and the Hello Summer title. They were all painted in with two different colours of acrylic paint.

<<<<<<<<<<<>>>>>>>>>>>

"A Joyful heart"

with the Montage Collection

I used the Fairyland paper from the Montage Collection.

I framed the photo with the chipboard Collage Frame which I covered with embossing powder. I also used the wave shaped chipboard from the "By the sea" set.

I hope my layouts inspired you to scrap your holiday beach pictures or any old summer pics!!

Have a wonderful day!
