First Design Team project by Phoebe Tonosaki

Hello all, it is my greatest pleasure to be here with you all.

My name is Phoebe Tonosaki.
I am from Hong Kong,
I get married with a Japanese at 2004 and moved to Japan since then.

I have always loved paper crafting and any creative activities.
I started my art journey a few years ago to explore myself and also
challenge to things that I was not able to when I was young.

I started off with altered arts and then soon fell in love with scrapbooking as well.
Beautiful papers, bright colorful flowers and shapes of chipboards stimulate my
imagination a great deal and I get comfort and peace when creating them.
Blue Fern Studios has always been my first choice when doing mixed media layout.
The designs are always the most mesmerizing ,
and the paper quality is always on the top rank especially because I love to do heavy layering.

I am thrilled to be able to on the design team 2019!
Hoping to share many inspiring and interesting projects with you all !

So here please let me share my first project !
Since this is the first time many of you get to know me.
I want to show you some of myself !

This is me !  a fun photo taken with snap chat :D

I chose Purple and Green as the main colors cos they are my favorite colors.

I started with using Stamp - Home Accents to make subtle and brief pattern on random area. I used   "Spring Parade" as the base, matching up with chipboard Jeweled Page Baubles which embossed with embossing powder "Pansy", then a piece fm the self adhesive printed chipboard shapes "Artisan Collections Remnants"to create the layers.

Then I used multiple Blue Fern Studios flowers in purple and mint green to add more elements to the whole piece.

As I aim for simple beauty for this layout,
I only added very briefly sprays around the two areas to link up all the colors.

I hope you like my first work and looking forward to hear fm you !
Greetings fm Japan !

August Layouts and Video Tutorial by Jessica

"Our Story"

Hi everyone!  My first layout I want to share with you this August features the Tattered Walls Collection and I included a video tutorial that you can find below.

The main background paper is "The Reading Room" and I added a strip of "The Garage" paper.

The Our Story chipboard was first given a coat of gesso, then painted with white acrylic paint.  Next I embossed the whole title with Pearl embossing powder.  Then using the Super Grunge stamp, I embossed the title with Ivory embossing powder.  I love the effect!  The Bits of Honey chipboard pieces were embossed with Fern embossing powder.

The red rose buds are actually from the Homespun Blooms flowers that I took apart and made into rose buds (you can see it in my tutorial).  The rest of the flowers on the page are from the Homespun Blossoms collection and look really nice with the colors in the picture.  Below the flower you are able to see the Green Ivory embossing powder that I used with the Crackle Textures stamp.  You can also see the Marine glitter on the flowers and Lemonade Seedlings that I added around the flowered areas and other spots around the picture.

In this picture you can see more details and see the Tattered Newsprint stamping that I did around the picture.

The Tattered Walls Ephemera was a nice touch to accent the areas around my picture.

And now, here is the video tutorial I created.  I hope you find it helpful and fun. :-)

"Love This Moment"

My second layout for August also features the Tattered Walls collection.  My background paper is "The Maid's Room" from the Tattered Walls Collection.  I wanted to use the colors blue, red, and yellow so I chose blue as the dominant color, red is the secondary color, then tiny bits of golden yellow as accents.  On three small areas on the background, I used matte gel and a soft floral stencil, then sprinkled some Beating Heart seedlings and some Blue Ice glitter over top.

The title chipboard Love This Moment was first embossed with Azul embossing powder.  Then I embossed over it with Pearl embossing powder.  This seemed to soften the sparkles from the Azul embossing powder.  On this side of the picture, the white flower is from the Christmas Blooms set.  I created the two red rose buds on this page by separating the pieces of one of the Homespun Blooms and folding them into place.  I did the same thing with the off-white Chesterville Florals flower to make some rose buds.

In this picture you can see more of the Beating Heart seedlings surrounding some tiny accent flowers I had from my stash.  The oval frame chipboard piece under my picture was cut in half (to fit the size of my picture) and embossed with Azul embossing powder.  The Gold Nugget seedlings add the touch of golden yellow that I wanted for the layout.

I used the Journaling Cards stamps on watercolor paper and embossed them with Azul Embossing Powder (and added the bits of Gold Nugget Seedlings).  The Card to the left of the picture has a piece of Tattered Walls Ephemera under it for dimension.

The two off-white flowers are both part of the Chesterville Florals set.  The red rose bud was made from one of the Homespun Blooms.  And the blue flower is from the Dark Tropic Lilies set.

March Inspiration - Megan

Hi there Blue Fern Fans :)

Today I have two layouts for you using Amber & Apricot, and two cards, one using wanderlust and one using Remnants, so lets get to it :)

For this layout, I fussy cut along both edges and popped a large chipboard sheet behind it, before adhering it on top of my second piece of patterned paper.  I could then add my chipboard popping out from along the sides.  Theres also some fussy cutting, utilising the fabulous floral graphics to add more depth to my cluster.

The details: sprinklings of seedlings and splatters of rust colours.

Chipboard has been embossed with Mushroom Embossing Powder - I find myself reaching for this one a lot, its a fab colour!

This photo shows you all the dimension of this layout, lots and lots of layers, makes everything pop!

My second layout today again uses the lovely Amber & Apricot collection.

My background this time is a mixture of stamping, paint splattering and fussy cutting -  this collection was perfect for it! ;)

Again there is a lot of dimension to this layout.  The heart has been painted,  while its till wet covered in red glitter, and then inked the edges with black archival ink.

I love how the seedlings give that extra bit of interest and pop to a project!

My final project for you today is two cards with two different collections.

The first card uses the Remnants Collection.  The Callaway piece of patterned paper is perfect for cards - out of the four different 6x6 patterns, I selected the two I wanted and attached them to my cardstock base.

I used two different colours of seedlings to coordinate with the green/purple colour scheme I had chosen.

The chipboard this time I left bare because I felt there was enough colour without introducing a new one.  The printed chipboard pieces created further interest popping out from my cluster and curled paper edges.

The last project for you today is a card using the Wanderlust collection.  The card was for a colleague who was leaving; young and full of energy I thought this quote was here to a T! :)

Simple but effective there was really nothing to this but I love how it turned out.  Layers of paper with layers of chipboard, some twine and a bit of paint splattering.

You can see here the amount of layering involved.
Thanks for popping by!  I'll see you next month :)

Pam Ellis Uses the Remnants Collection

Hello everyone!  Today we welcome back Pam Ellis, our Blue Fern Fan of the Month, for her second project.  This week Pam's layout is created using beautiful vintage shades, along burgundy, from our Remnants Collection.  What a wonderful color combination!

Pam began by applying clear Gesso to the background of the paper and lightly added green coloring to the center of the paper.  Next, she used a stencil and molding paste to add flowers to the background and colored them with a watercolor pencil.  After they dried, clear glue was added and then sprinkled with Blue Fern Studios Redwine Glitter.

Two doilies were die cut from the Mayfair paper, and additional layers were added.  The Persian Ornament chipboard piece was embossed with Blue Fern embossing powder and became the next layer.  Then the photo was added.  The last step was to add Blue Fern seedlings to the frame of the chipboard piece to add contrast.

Throughout the layout Pam added printed chipboard pieces that coordinate with the Remnants Collection, and raw chipboard that she embossed and use as her titles.  Blue Fern flowers from the Remnant Florals and Homespun Blossoms added the finishing touch!

Magical by Vija

Today, we are back with a layout from Vija Anton, our December Blue Fern Fan of the Month.
She has used the Homespun paper collection to create this beautiful wedding layout.

* * * * * * * * * * * * * * *
For my layout featuring a candid photo from my son and daughter in law's wedding I used the beautiful Homespun Hospitality paper.  I turned it on its side for my layout and allowed the beauty of the paper speak for itself, just embellishing the page with mainly chipboard and flowers.

To keep the photos the focus of the page I used a frame from the Homespun printed chipboard shapes and embossed all the chipboard pieces in Antique Gold and adding some Sea Mist embossing powder and Wintergreen Seedlings to some of the pieces to keep the page unified. I similarly altered the Wanderlust Vine to tie in with the chipboard pieces.

I added a few bits of lace to add visual dimension and contrast. And a little bit of stamping to extend the foliage and give it a touch of whimsy.

November inspiration by Pascale

Hello Sweeties

Today I'm up on Blue Fern Studios blog with three new projects. The first one is a layout featuring both Vintage Christmas collections.

I primed the background with clear gesso. Next, I stamped randomly with the Jingle Bells and the Christmas Collage stamps. When done, I added a design with a stencil and Platinum crackle paste. I let dry naturally.

In the meantime, I primed all the chipboards with white gesso. I embossed the snowflakes with the Icicle embossing powder.

I painted all the leaves with a green watercolor, then I sprinkled them with the Fern and the Clover embossing powders to add some texture.

I cut a few pieces of paper to add under the photo as well as a piece of lace.

The crackle paste dry, I added some green to the background before gluing all the embellishments with a 3D gel.

To finish the layout I added some seedlings.

My second project featured also the Vintage Christmas collection. I worked with white and gold colors to remind those of the Christmas tree.

First I primed the background with clear gesso. When dry, I added an embossed design made with the Jingle Bells stamp and the Honey embossing powder. Next, I added another design with a stencil and Platinum crackle paste.

While the crackle paste was drying, I primed the Rose leaves, the Fern leaves, and the Snowflakes with white gesso as well as the flowers. I covered the Swirl Ornaments with Gold crackle paste.

I splattered the background with acrylic paints: one gold, the other white pearl. I used those same paints to color the Snowflakes and the Amber Blooms.

I covered the Rose and the Fern leaves with Platinum Crackle paste and let them dry naturally.

I cut a few papers to add under the photo and I glued all the embellishments with a 3D gel.

To finish the layout I added seedlings and glitter.

Here is my last November project: I made three simple Xmas cards with lace, paper and embossing powder.

The three cards are made on the same model.

I cut a triangle in the Homemade paper from the Homespun collection to make the Xmas tree.

I covered the triangles with laces.

I used some left over from the Quatrefoil panel and from the Quilted Page panel to represent the Christmas Tree balls. I embossed them with the Ginger and the 14 Karat powder.

The card bases were stamped with Versamark and embossed.
